I just turned 46 years old. And I guess I’m having some version of a midlife crisis, because suddenly I want to slooooow down Everything. Life went way too fast last year, with three job changes, my oldest turning 20 and my youngest 16, and…look, I just need life to chill. And, in the interest in discussing one of my hobbies, I want to discuss my reading goals here. I have several.
Read more from my TBR! And quit buying so damn much!
Read more nonfiction, least least 2 a month. I have so much I want to learn!
Read more classics and not necessarily of the Anglo/European centric kind.
Reread some Very Dear Favorites. I’m leaning toward things I read more than 10 years ago but I’ll be playing it by ear.
If it’s not working, drop the book. I’m not going to suffer through anything at this point. Free range reading for all!
Buy less, borrow more. I’m looking at you: library, Everand, Kindle Unlimited, etc.
Finish/catch up on some series. I’d like to get more of the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire caught up, as well as the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett - although I also dread finishing that one because there will never be a new one. I have 3 more books in the Wolfsong by TJ Klune series to get to. And then there is the Fables comic series by Bill Willingham. He just HAD to bring it back for another short run, didn’t he? There are more, but I can’t recall all the unfinished series I have.
These all feel manageable? I hope? Well see. Did you make any reading goals this year? Is there any point to making these kinds of goals? And why do I feel like I need structure to do something I enjoy? Age old question right there.
